Typically designed for interior signage, this is a nice alternative to a back lit sign. A small LED strip is fitted to the edge of an 8mm thick clear acrylic panel that has the text, logo or shape engraved into the surface deep enough that the light passing through hits the engraved lines and it lights up. This can give an almost neon type effect.

Edge Lit signage can make edges of letters light up like a halo light, or the edge of the sign itself.
